Water - Kathmandu Valley

water spout - kumbeshwar temple - patan

As everywhere in the world in the Kathmandu Valley water is a vital source for surviving as a human being.

In the Valley most of the houses haven't running water so the people are dependent on public water sources.

A hundreds year old water system is providing urban citizens of kathmandu, patan and baktapur with water through pipes from the surroundings hills that eventually come out in beautifully decorated spout in small ponds just below street level.

Currently the Kathmandu Valley counts 96 working spouts and the government is working on a renovation plan at the moment.

On the photo right a water spout can be seen in front of the Kumbeshwar Temple in Patan.

In the central & south of the Kathmandu Valley there is a water scarcity. Scientists calculated that within 20 years all ground water will be gone.
