Myths - Kathmandu Valley

There are countless myths and stories about places in the Kathmandu Valley. One of the most famous story must be from the bhuddist Svayambhū Purāna and tells how the Kathmandu Valley was created.

According to this myth the Boddhisatva Manjusri saw a beautiful lotus in the center of a lake. (The valley used to be a lake) Majusri cut an opening in the rocks (Chobar) and the water got out of the Valley and Manjusri could worship the lotus flower.
